Tammy Mays
Senior Associate

Tammy Mays is a Senior Associate with Insight Education Group. In this role, she is primarily responsible for partnering with clients to provide targeted support for educator effectiveness, leadership initiatives, instructional practices and strategic management.

Prior to joining Insight, Tammy served as Director of Diversity and Institutional Equity for educational and health providers in Baltimore City. In that role, she created innovative solutions to strengthen diversity, inclusion and cultural competencies by collaborating with business, legal, compliance and company teams to support cultural patterns and profiles for the management of mental health and educational initiatives.

While developing an equity lens, Tammy served as a high-school principal for Baltimore City Public schools for seven years. Additionally, she co-designed and facilitated the implementation of one of the first Baltimore City Schools P-Tech programs. The partnership with government, college, and private industry allows students the opportunity to graduate with a high school diploma and a no cost, two-year associate degree. As a strong proponent of transformation and reform, Tammy also facilitated the opening of two effective alternative options programs/schools, assisted with the restructuring of a failing traditional middle school and led a school in district turnaround. She supported the development and implementation of a learning community by facilitating and monitoring the gathering and synthesis of data to determine program effectiveness. Moreover, she modeled and mentored colleagues in the use of instructional strategies, methodologies, partnership practices, and assessment policies that affect students with particular focus on requirements associated with graduation, special education, and related services.

Through Tammy’s experience as a teacher, educational associate, assistant principal, director and principal, she has built a strong reputation for providing decisive leadership and effective team building. Building collaborative relationships with internal and external partners, to include students, parents, school supports, and community leaders has vastly contributed to her career and success as a leader.

Tammy earned a Bachelor of Science in English from Towson University, a Master of Science degree in Education from Johns Hopkins University, administrator I & II credentials from the Maryland State Department of Education, Graduate Certificate in Administration and Supervision from Johns Hopkins University and a Graduate Certificate in School Management and Leadership from Harvard’s Graduate School of Education.
