Educator Exchange Recap : Retaining through Resilience was "fantastic".
Kicking off the Educator Exchange on September 13th, 2023 in New Orleans, Dr. Andrea Thomas-Reynolds discussed how hiring officers, school leaders, and district leadership can prioritize the well-being and engagement of educators. Alongside sessions on recruitment and retention, there were also wellness and resilience workshops aimed at equipping school and district leaders with valuable resources to support teachers, administrators, and non-certificated personnel who all play a crucial role in the success of schools.
Powerful Sessions and Actionable Strategies
Recruitment: Participants participated in conversations around providing internship opportunities for rising seniors and college students in instructional, non-instructional, and operational areas in school districts.
Retention: Participants participated in discussions around developing a plan to operationalize recruitment and retention goals, and sharing best practices to enhance retention levels of staff, including Black males.
Wellness: Participants discussed practical strategies to address educator stresses such as finances and mental wellness, as well as ideas for showing appreciation and recognizing educators and staff in schools and across the districts in a further attempt to retain employees in the K12 industry.
"I loved all my sessions because I was able to apply my own experiences as an admin and also from the perspective of the teacher. What I found most relevant was the teachings of Emotional Intelligence and how we as leaders need to take care of our staff and self."
The second and final day of the conference commenced with a dynamic networking session, where attendees enthusiastically exchanged their best practices for effectively recruiting, selecting, and retaining staff in school districts. Dr. Michael Moody skillfully moderated a panel consisting of esteemed higher education and K-12 district officials, who generously shared their insights on cultivating resilience among educators. Additionally, Dr. Adrell Pickney captivated the audience with inspiring anecdotes about their own resilience as an educator and the profound impact it has had on the lives of others.
