Workshop (Nov 1-2)
Traction for School Improvement (TSI): A System for Pedagogical Leadership Teams

Speakers: Jason Stricker & Jason Culbertson

Overview: In the 21st Century, the complexity of leading organizations such as schools continues to increase, while individual leaders’ capacity to directly manage all aspects of change is quickly diminishing. The old notion of one singular school leader working in isolation is no longer viable regardless of the skills and traits of the individual.

The research clearly indicates that the most successful schools are built upon a distributed leadership approach. Combining the latest research on leadership with over two decades of experience, Insight Education Group created and launched a process for operationalizing the distributive leadership model known as TRACTION for School Improvement (TSI) in schools across the US.

This session provides participants with a practical system to implement Pedagogical Leadership Teams in their respective schools. Attendees will leave the training prepared to fully implement TSI back in their schools.

TSI includes a structure for weekly team meetings, clear roles, and responsibilities for the leaders and members of the team, processes to ensure goals are identified and attained, and the three key ingredients of TRACTION focus, discipline, and accountability for each individual as well as the collective team.

Breakout Session (Nov. 3)
Utilizing Video To Drive Educator Growth

Speakers: Jason Stricker & Jason Culbertson

Overview: The research backs up what we know from experience: coaching interactions are the most effective PD. But coaching initiatives are challenging to scale and manage within the time constraints inherent in schools. Technology and video can help overcome these challenges and support a truly effective, job-embedded professional growth system for not only teachers but those who support them.

This session will provide a demonstration of the online ADVANCE platform including the processes for uploading and providing feedback on videos, utilizing the Human Capital Management System, calibrating observers on instruction, and more.

Breakout (Nov. 3)
How To Build And Sustain A Strong Climate & Culture In Your School

Speaker: Jason Stricker

Overview: Research is clear: A positive culture and climate is tied to student success. When students and staff want to be in a school, achievement increases. This workshop will give school leaders practices and processes for evaluating, establishing, and sustaining a positive school climate and culture for the purpose of improving student achievement.

Breakout (Nov. 3)
Instructional Coaching: The Number 1 Lever To Improve Student Outcomes

Speaker: Jason Culbertson

Overview: Research indicates the most effective type of professional development is personalized instructional coaching. This session focuses on best practices on coaching – lessons, PLCs, and leadership teams.

The purpose of this workshop is to provide an overview for instructional coaching including identifying high leverage areas of strength and growth as well as using questioning to promote self-reflection.

Tested in the field for over a decade with countless examples of significantly improving teachers’ performance and student achievement, the Coaching for Change model is undergirded by three principles including building teacher trust, using a growth mindset, and calibrating coaches.
