Kia Johnson, Project Coach

Kia Johnson is a project coach partnering with the participating Empowering Educators to Excel (E3) school districts to provide targeted support for educator effectiveness, leadership initiatives, and instructional practice.  

Kia began her career as an 8th grade language arts instructor in a public district school in LaPlace, Louisiana. She also served as a secondary instructor in charter schools located in New Orleans and Philadelphia. After several years, Kia expanded her talents outside of the classroom and became Dean of Students for a charter school in New York City. In 2015, Kia was selected to help expand the organization and was promoted to Founding Executive Director of the Great Oaks Charter School in Wilmington, DE, where she has served for the past five years. Kia has extensive experience in curriculum development, talent development, and compliance monitoring. 

Kia believes that great leaders and teachers are the key to creating the excellent educational experiences that every student deserves. She is passionate about supporting educators as they seek to transform outcomes for children. Kia has a Bachelor of Science degree from Hampton University and a Master of Arts in School Leadership from Columbia University. She is an alumnus of Teach for America and is a certified principal in Delaware.
