Instructional Leadership Development

Our instructional leadership framework, Strategic Leadership for Student Achievement™, drives a thoughtful and systematic approach to instructional leadership. The framework is based on Leading for Change: A Practical Guide to Instructional Leadership (Insight Education Group, Inc., 2009), which distills rigorous research into actionable steps that result in stronger and better schools. Using this framework, Insight engages leaders in implementing the essential work of instructional program design through the Six Goals of Instructional Leadership:

Goal 1: Identify the Instructional Vision
Goal 2: Prioritize School Initiatives
Goal 3: Articulate Instructional Expectations
Goal 4: Align Professional Development
Goal 5: Structure Teacher Collaboration
Goal 6: Provide Continuous Monitoring, Reflection, and Evaluation

By reflecting on and addressing these six considerations, instructional leaders deepen their understanding of the instructional context, and create the conditions for an exemplary academic program. Beginning with the collection and examination of data (surveys, assessments, and work products) Insight helps leaders strategically pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses of their school's instructional program, and develop a comprehensive, attainable strategic plan. Schools that we work with often elect to maintain an ongoing leadership coaching and support relationship with Insight consultants which can include:

  • Individual and group coaching of leaders.
  • Regular, targeted meetings with school leader to develop and refine monthly professional development calendars and agendas.
  • Regular check-ins with leaders.
  • Development of tools or processes for effective meetings, collaboration time and coaching conversations.
  • Collaborative classroom observations and debriefing with school leaders.
  • Analysis of student achievement data.
