Tawny Laskar is a Consultant with Insight Education Group. She brings over ten years of experience in working with urban schools. Her position with Insight takes her across the country to work with schools as an instructional coach, professional development facilitator, and provider of academic program assessments.
She began her career as a charter corps member for Teach For America in Atlanta. During her commitment, she piloted the district’s transition program for students who were retained in the third grade. Working on a year-round schedule, all students earned a passing score to exit the program. Tawny was a founding teacher at KIPP: PATH Academy in Atlanta and KIPP: Academy of Opportunity in Los Angeles. Both schools are high performing middle schools in traditionally underserved communities. At each school she was able to make a significant impact on students and increase scores on various high-stakes assessments. She also worked with Insight to create curriculum to certify teachers in a nationally recognized teaching corps. Most recently Tawny worked as the Director of Operations for MLA Partner Schools. In this position she collaborated closely with the Los Angeles Unified School District and school leadership to provide several programs and reforms that aimed to increase student achievement for over 6,000 students in two non-charter high schools.
Tawny holds two Bachelor degrees from the University of California at Santa Barbara in Law & Society and Black Studies and a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia State University. She is a founding member of the Board of Directors for Valor Academy Charter School and a volunteer with the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles.
