Dr. Sonja Hollins Alexander, Specialist
Dr. Sonja Hollins Alexander is a specialist with Insight Education Group. She leads professional development for educators and provides coaching for school leaders.
Through her 22 years as an educator and school and district leader, she has led initiatives in strategic planning, policy development, project management, stakeholder engagement, grant writing, instructional design, curriculum development, teacher and leader performance evaluations and facilitation of adult learning.
She has extensive experience in the development and use of online professional development for teachers and leaders.
Sonja worked in DeKalb County School District in Atlanta, Georgia, as a school social worker, teacher, assistant principal, principal, assistant director, and director of professional learning. She has also worked as an adjunct university professor.
During her tenure as professional learning director for DeKalb, she instituted the PLeCampus, a collaborative Online Community of Customized Professional Development Courses. This work was featured in an article titled “One Stop PD Shop” in ISTE’s Leading and Learning with Technology (June 2010 issue).
Sonja is also the author of Online Professional Development through Virtual Learning Communities.
She believes that well-designed online professional development supports scalability and sustainability of instructional practices, which enhance educator effectiveness and lead to student success.
She has a Bachelor of Science and a Master in Social Work from the University of Georgia. In addition, she earned her educational specialist degree from Georgia State University and a Doctor of Education degree from Argosy University.
